She is now the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Chalk Man, The Taking of Annie Thorne, The Other People, The Burning Girls and The Drift. Each one was unique and what I really liked is how the author mixed current events along with a mix of supernatural/horror and blended both together so well they were kinda terrifying! I absolutely loved this, it added such a personal feel to each story and really helped to set the scene. These eleven twisted tales of the macabre from the bestselling author of The Chalk Man and The Burning Girls are your perfect companions as the nights draw in.

It also put me in mind of the scene-setting introduction that Alfred Hitchcock used to provide in "Alfred Hitchcock presents" television series. In Dust we are welcomed to the Villa de las Almas Perdidas in Gran Canaria where the Calima wind blows through every crevice. This is the most profound and, at times, philosophical story of the collection while it retains its mysterious character as Leila will assume the duties of an amateur detective when a suspected murder takes place in the ship. In Gloria, a strange girl at a service station endears herself to a cold-hearted killer, but can a leopard really change its spots? The Lion at the Gate in which a strange piece of graffiti leads to a terrifying encounter for four school friends .

The problem with darkness was, once you let it in, it lurked in the corners of your mind, filling them with shadows. These eleven twisted tales of the macabre from the bestselling author of The Chalk Man are your perfect companions as the nights draw in.

She came up with a plan that her editors agreed to-scrap the book she wrote and instead publish this collection of short stories. The sun might currently blazing outside, but this collection will make for perfect reading matter as the dark autumn nights draw in, when so many of us begin to turn the the unsettling and the disturbing. There were a couple of other stories that leaned more to the horror side of things and those were not my favorite. Gloria is probably my least favourite as it’s a bit gross, definitely strange and different with a surprising end.A holiday village with a difference in Dust is another story I had to read twice just to make sure I’d picked up the nuances, and again that extra effort was worth it.
